Pinolite - the newcomer from Europe

About Pinolith

Pinolith showcases a special variety of magnesite and seems to be found exclusively in Austria. It is comprised of a mixture of magnesite, dolomite and graphite. Thanks to its low hardness (Mohs scale 4-4,5), its component minerals are soft and easy to polish. Pinolith is a metamorphic rock and originates from decomposition of magnesium-containing rock.

If it looks a little bit unimportant as a rough stone, it unfolds its fantastic appearance in the polished state. Its large, white, faintly sparkly crystals contrast beautifully against their black background, like white flower petals sprinkled liberally on black sand. This stone, like no other, unites the beauty of simple forms with sensual, seemingly organic lines. Authenticity and aesthetics distinguish it as a polished stone, when it shows its unmistakeable structures with high individuality and magnificent brilliance.

The "newcomer" in the stones

Although still a newer stone in the world of rocks and gems, pinolith already has several names. Due to its unmistakable, black-and-white structure, it is called "edelweiss", "ice flower magnesite", "Märbelstein" or "Pinolithstein". Its occurrence is just as rare as its appearance is incredible and unusual. To date, it has only ever been found in Sunk (Hohentauern, Styria), Austria.

It is also a "young" stone relative to its recognition and use. Neither in alternative medicine nor as a gemstone has it been widely recognized yet. The time has now come to discover this wonderful stone and get to know more about its energy benefits, its origin and its ancient site in Sunk, Styria.
